Resorts: Pietrasanta, Forte dei Marmi, Viareggio and Camaiore The coastline of Versilia is located in the north eastern part of Tuscany in the province of Lucca and Massa-Carrara. It lies between the Tyrrhen sea and the Apuan Alps. Viareggio is the main town of Versilia, the fine bathing beaches of which stretch north for some 30km as far as Marina di Carrara in the north of Tuscany, making it the most popular seaside resort on the west coast of Italy. The shelving beach of fine sand is backed by magnificent pine-woods and a distant view of the Apuan Alps. Resorts: Follonica, Punta Ala, Castiglione della Pescaia, Principina, Talamone, Grosseto, Orbetello, Ansedonia, Monte Argentario In the southern part of the 300km long Tuscan coastline, between Follonica and the peninsula, Monte Argentario, you will find some of the most magnificent sandy beaches. Only 22 km from the province's capital, Grosseto, is the most scenic resort along the Maremma coast: Castiglione della Pescaia. Further south is the town of Orbetello, unusually situated on a thin stretch of headland between two lagoons. To the north is the Laguna di Ponente with Tombolo della Giannella, and to the south is the Laguna di Levante bordering the sand dunes of Tombolo della Feniglia, with its several kilometres of protected natural beaches.
