The Town of Pistoia |

Pistoia is a lively old Tuscan town in a pleasant site at the foot of the Apennines between Monte Albano and the banks of the river Ombrone.
It has many fine old buildings whose character recalls its situation between Florence and Pisa. It has an unusual number of beautiful churches with characteristic portals and fine sculptures. The centre is closed to traffic. The central point of Pistoia is undoubtedly the spacious "Piazza del Duomo" with its imposing buildings and the Duomo which has as arcaded Romanesque Pisan façade. Recommended is a stroll around the piazza from the cathedral across to the "Palazzo dei Vescovi", an archaeological museum, and over to the other three Palazzi (Podesta, Comunale, Rospigliosi) and onto the "Museo Civico". Churches include the "San Antonio dei Frati del Tan", "San Francesco" and the " Basilica della Madonna dell' Urita.
On the 25th of July is the town's main festival
"Giostra dell'orso" centred around the "Piazza del Duomo". Colourful processions with local folk dressed in historical costumes as well as horseback tournaments take place. There is also a popular antiques market which takes place every weekend.

Collodi |

Collodi is especially popular with young children. Here you can visit the
"Pinocchio-Park", whereby both young and old can enjoy a fun day out! Le Avventure di Pinocchio, written by Carlo Lorenzini (1826-90) who was born in Florence, was first published in 1881 and later translated into 63 languages. The puppet hero is commemorated by a bronze monument and a sculptured tableaux in the museum garden recall episodes from the book. The "Villa Garzoni", built in 1633-62, has beautiful terraced gardens for a relaxing and leisurely afternoon stroll.
