Area: The Country Residence Cortona 2 is situated just 4 km away from the Etruscan town of Cortona. This fascinating historical town with its narrow cobbled streets, many churches, palaces and Etruscan remains, takes you back in time. It has one of the largest archaeological Etruscan museums in Italy (MAEC), thoroughly informative on the history of this over 3000 year old town, when the first Etruscan settlers came to Cortona. In particular are many art galleries which attract a lot of art lovers and enthusiasts. Paintings exhibited cover various eras and periods of time ranging from medieval to 20th century, ("Senese", "Diorentino", "Beato Angelico" to "Gino Severini), and also works by the master renaissance artist "Signorelli" whose influence inspired the great "Michelangelo".
Events and Festivities: The "Festival del Sole" takes place every year in August and attracts opera fans from all over the world. "Archidado" is a medieval tournament in historical costume which also takes place in summer on the streets of Cortona.
