The Agriturismo Serravalle is a small working farm estate set amongst 20 hectares of land planted with olive groves and vineyards, on the Montalbano hills in the heart of Chianti 'classico' countryside. The Agriturismo is an ideal choice for guests wishing to combine relaxation with sightseeing. The main farmhouse, which dates back to the 19th century, is occupied by the owners. The adjoining house, recently restored, contains: - 1 living area with kitchen - 1 large and spacious kitchen - 1 large dining room - 6 bedrooms - 5 bathrooms The house is generally rented as a single accommodation unit (for complete private use), however the individual apartments and guest rooms can be rented separately up to 12.6. and from 25.9.2010 on request. A restaurant is also available and produce from the farm, as well as local produce, is used wherever possible for the preparation of meals (breakfast and evening meals). Also situated on the estate is the farm shop and wine cellars. The wine cellar was restored at the end of 2005 and is filled with large wooden oak barrels for storing the wine. Formerly the stables, the ''Sunflower room'' (180 sq m) has also been restored and is used for wine tasting, cosy evening get- togethers or for celebrations etc... Just over the hills and across the vineyards is a small lake with spectacular views across the Valdinievole valley. Idyllic for picnics and walks FARM PRODUCEThe owner's original plan was purely to restore and renovate the old farmhouse. However, in 1976 they then planted 2,5 hectares of vineyards and began with the production of wine. In 2001 a further 3 vineyards were planted. Today the estate produces the famous Chianti wine, white and rose' Doc and Vin Santo, which is a sweet dessert wine. There are also over 2000 Olive trees from which Extra Vergine olive oil is produced. The farm shop is open from Tuesday to Saturday in the afternoons for the sale of produce. WINE/OIL TASTINGAgriturismo Serravalle holds wine tasting sessions together with sampling sessions of other farm foods and produce. ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE AT THE AGRITURISMO:Fishing, archery, table tennis, shiatsu massage, horse riding, cooking courses, painting courses, flower filled garden for relaxing, guided tours of Tuscany. EXCURSIONSThe Agriturismo is situated approximately 40 km from Florence. Other cultural towns and cities, including Pistoia, Lucca, Pisa and Siena, are also within easy reach. The coast is just 45km away. Just a short distance from the Agriturismo is the medieval town of Vinci, where Leonardo da Vinci once lived. The Agriturismo Serravalle is less than 4 km away from the world famous "Grotta Giusti". Special entrance prices have been arranged for our guests! Grotta Giusti Terme is one of nature's gifts! The temperatures rise the further one descends into Grotto. From the entrance to the deepest part of the grotto one passes through 3 very different rooms, each with its own traditional name, "Paradiso", "Purgatorio" and "Inferno" . In Limbus there is a small pool which has a constant water temperature of 36°C (in winter and in summer). Even the air temperature differs only slightly from season to season, from approx. 31°C to max. 34°C, and in the deepest part of the caves the humidity reaches almost 100%. The air pressure is reasonably constant in all the grotto rooms. A natural, but still not fully clarified process allows proper air circulation creating a pleasant and endurable atmosphere for visitors to enjoy their stay. The steam and vapours rising from the thermal baths are very healthy for the body and its organisms due to the high mineral content of the water and stimulates an overall feeling of well-being. In the 19th century Giuseppe Verdi proclaimed the Terme-Grottos as the eighth wonder of the world and today visitors are still fascinated by them. The grotto was discovered in 1849 when workman, who were digging on the grounds belonging to the family Giusti, came across hot steam rising from the earth. They immediately continued digging further until the caves were discovered, a hidden grotto. The moderately warm temperatures of the water lead instantly to ideas and theories for the use of the source for medical purposes. Today, as back then, the grotto filled with its stalagmites and stalactites has a very special atmosphere. A different world in which visitors move between the secret shadows and the unreal stillness and warmth of the caves, Paradies, Purgatorium and Inferno. On your journey through the grotto the temperatures rise slowly until you reach the depths at 34 C°. This allows the body to slowly adjust and adapt to the environment and enables you to prolong your stay, for example a good 50 minutes duration stay in the steam baths helps release all the impurities and strains from our bodies. The terme centre, as it is today, is a result of continual innovation and modernism, constantly adapting to the changes in our lifestyles. What will always remain, however, is the nucleus, the heart ; the thermal grotto. Along with the thermal steam baths in Grotta Giusti, there is also a range of treatments and therapies available, including fango-therapy, an ozone pool with thermal water, a thermal exercising pool, massages, inhalation treatments, as well as a range of individual treatments all carried out by highly qualified staff under the supervision of medical specialists. The beauty and cosmetic institute, with its own laboratories and research centre, completes the range of treatments offering new Avantgarde - therapies.
